In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Graduate Show takes the form of an online showcase to celebrate the resilience, creativity and talent of our final year students.

This has been a very difficult time for our staff and students, but the indomitable spirit of LSAD and LIT has shone through. We have 228 highly talented people leaving LSAD, LIT at this juncture. These are students who have come through the most difficult of times.

We would like to thank everyone for their work and dedication to this wonderful documentary, the LSAD graduate wesite and all the hard work in between.

Online workshop for aspiring film editors hosted by Film in Limerick 

Free online workshop will explore the art of editing and career opportunities in the field

Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick is delighted to announce that local film editor Simon McGuire, will join us Wednesday 6 May at 2pm for a free online webinar on working as a film editor. 

The workshop is the latest in the Wednesday Workshops series and is open to anyone in the Mid-West with an interest in filmmaking. 

With over twenty five years’ experience in film and broadcast editing, with credits including; RTÉ’s Killinaskully, Mattie and Kevin Liddy’s, The Suffering Kind. Simon lectures on the craft of editing at Limerick School of Art & Design (LIT), and is currently undertaking a Doctorate of Education in Creative Media Practice at Bournemouth University, UK. 

The workshop, titled ‘To cut a long story short’, will explore Simon’s process and the craft of editing as well as the tools he uses to create stories. The session will also focus on work opportunities in Ireland and further training possibilities for aspiring and developing editors.

Regional Film Manager, Paul C. Ryan, says: “we are thrilled that Simon will be joining us for what promises to be a really useful workshop for anyone aspiring to develop a career as a full-time editor in Ireland. Simon is one of our most talented editors and a great champion for film students in the region. 

The workshop is the fifth of 10 free online ‘Wednesday Workshop’ events that 

Film in Limerick is running for aspiring and practicing filmmakers in the MidWest. The initiative is supported by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.

An exploration of the films and philosophy of legendary editor and sound designer Walter Murch (‘The Conversation’, ‘Apocalypse Now’), as told in his own words. (Note: Seen and enjoyed by Mr. Murch.)

Photography is coming to Thomond Park

Whelan Cameras are delighted to announce the inaugural Photo Expo will be coming to Thomond Park this May 9th. The Expo promises to be the biggest celebration of photography in Ireland in 2020, with all the main photographic brands in the industry in attendance. Speakers and demonstrators from Canon, Nikon, Sony and DJI head up an impressive list of more than twenty-five exhibitors that will be in attendance on the day.

Manager of Whelan Cameras David Whelan said of the event “Last year we celebrated our 70th year in business so it felt like a natural step to bring something big to Limerick this year. With the help of some of the biggest names in the industry we hope to make this an event to remember”.

The Photo Expo will be a mix of live demonstrations, touch and try opportunities and keynote speakers giving talks. One of whom will be, Canon Ambassador, Sanjay Jogia a leading internationally acclaimed Award-Winning Wedding Photographer.

Also in attendance will be Nikon Ambassador and fellow Award-Winning Wildlife Photographer Tom Mason. Tom has a huge passion for the natural world and will show his collection of work and give brilliant insights into what it takes to be a great wildlife photographer.

One of Ireland’s leading landscape photographers Bernard Geraghty will discussing Arctic Light in the main hall. Bernard leads tours around Ireland, Italy, Norway and Tenerife to name a few. “Photography allows me to live the dream. I can be alone, at one with the world around me, and yet feel as though I am at the centre of the universe when I capture that split second in time.”

Tickets are €10 and are available through Eventbrite and The Photo Expo website, www.thephotoexpo.ie. Group tickets are also available for groups of ten or more booking together available by emailing info@thephotoexpo.ie. Tickets allow entry to all demonstrations and talks, keynote speeches will be on a first come first served basis on the day.

LSAD Creative Broadcasting & Film Production presents masterclass with Oscar Nominated Director, Steph Green
Steph Green is an Oscar nominated film and TV director. Selected as one of Creativity Magazine’s Top Directors to Watch and Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film, her critically-acclaimed feature film was shot in Ireland and stars Will Forte and Maxine Peake.  She has directed top TV shows such as The Americans, The Deuce, Man in the High Castle, American Crime, Bates Motel, You’re the Worst, Billions, Preacher, Luke Cage, Scandal and most recently, Watchmen for HBO. Her recent pilot Dare Me was picked up by USA/Netflix and will premiere in 2020.  She also just directed the pilot for The L Word: Generation Q which has a straight-to-series pick up from Showtime.

Day two Creative Broadcast & Film Production opendays and today we are running film screenings in our Clare St Campus and Camera demos in Moylish campus. It has been brilliant to meet with our future students. Huge thanks you to all the staff who helped out, to Art O Laoire, tecnichal supervisor, IT staff, Tom Brophy and Annette Bowman, to Des Farell and Mike Fox LSAD for making us feel so welcome, to lecturers, Simon McGuire, Muireann DeBarra, Mike Gavin, John Greenwood, and Mark Griffin, to our head of department James Greenslate, to Ken Coleman of Game art and design, but most of all to Creative Broadcast and Film production students. I get the pleasure of working with the hardest working, creative, and funfilled crew in the world.
