The success of the short film, Warts and All’, continued on Sunday night last, with it picking up the award for Best MidWest Short Film at the Richard Harris International Film Festival. There was stiff competition in this category, namely Wednesday Child, directed by Laura O’Shea, which had three nominations in total.
Warts and all editor, Simon McGuire, was present to accept the award on behalf of director Pat Shortt, writer Michelle Lehane and producer Lee Crowley. This award comes on the back of picking up the Best International Narrative Short Film Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California the previous week. The film will be continuing to screen at various festivals around the country and abroad, so keep an eye out for it in coming schedules.
On the back of successful screenings at the Newport Beach and Kerry Film Festivals, news filtered through from Newport Beach that Warts and All received the award for Best International Narrative Short Film.
Producer Lee Crowley has led in the thanks via the films Twitter page, “We are absolutely delighted to win Best Short Narrative International Short. Thanks to the jury and all the team @nbff for this wonderful award!”
Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of Warts and All and a special congrats to the director Pat Shortt on bringing the team together to make this project.

THe 10th year of the Richard Harris International Film Festival is now underway with a jammed packed programme of events taking place across multiple venues in Limerick City. With short and feature screenings, networking events and the annual Gala Awards Show, produced by Simon McGuire, LSAD, TUS, this promises to be a great in-person return to the festival since the pandemic.

The Festival Programme features Horror, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy! They have 27 Shorts, 2 Features, 2 Retrospectives (The original Hocus Pocus and 28 Days Later screened by EIFF at Arc Cinema Ennis) , 14 International Shorts, 13 Irish Shorts, 7 Student Shorts, 3 Irish Student Shorts, 5 Workshops, 1 industry panel, 1 Pitching Comp and a Whiskey Experience for after hours! They even have their very own festival beer – a blood orange infused ale (of course!) by local brewery Western Herd.
Run by Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick, Engine Shorts is delivered in partnership with the Local Authorities in Tipperary, Limerick and Clare, and the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
The training & production scheme aims to inspire and support up-and-coming filmmakers to create world-class shorts that resonate with a wide international audience.
It also offers the opportunity for emerging local crew to gain real-world experience on funded productions and to receive industry guidance. Shortlisted teams avail of training to develop their project ideas and up to six teams will be awarded production funding of up to €12,500 each to produce a short film.
Timeline
The deadline for applications from individual writers or teams or writer, director, and producer is Wednesday 30th November (12noon) 2022.
Shortlist projects will take part in the training programme to further develop their ideas and they will then be invited to pitch their ideas to an industry panel.
Following the pitch, up to 6 films will be produced across Limerick, Clare and Tipperary from April to May 2023 with further training and mentoring support provided to teams.

EUNICS Short Shorts 2022 – will be held in the Millenium Theatre on 20th October 2022
Expect Action, Comedy, Animation, Drama and more from Short Shorts from Europe Film Festival, a selection of European short films of ten member countries of EUNIC Ireland.
Let Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, and Spain entertain you with a variety of genres from contemporary, cutting-edge filmmakers. Cork International Film Festival and TUS Limerick School of Art and Design will also present short films from Ireland on the programme. After the screening the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite film via their smartphone.
This event is brought to you by the EUNIC Ireland network in association with Cork International Film Festival, Light House Cinema Dublin, Pálás Cinema Galway, TUS Limerick School of Art and Design and Richard Harris International Film Festival. LSAD is delighted to bring back the student magazine programme, Word On The Street, for a new series coming later in the Autumn.
The popular programme, now in its sixth series, is produced by the students and staff of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production course at LSAD and this year will fall under the in-house production unit Film CEL (Film Craftsmanship, Excellence & Learning).

Exciting times ahead for the cast and crew of Warts and All, with the announcement of selection to the Newport Beach Film Festival.
The short film, directed by Pat Shortt, will get its screening on October 16th at the California festival which draws a number of famous faces as well as established and iconic film makers each year.
