With just days to go, until the First Frame Event of the Dublin International Film Festival is taking place at the Millennium Theatre, TUS, below is a featurette of the short documentary ‘Dungeons & Dreams’. Produced by the 2nd Years of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme at LSAD, TUS, the story features Kéno McMahon, who with others use the table top game Dungeons and Dragons to explore questions of identity and gender.
The featurette was produced by Film CEL, the in-house production unit at TUS.
This is one of 11 nominations for LSAD, TUS in DIFF 2023, and also the first time that an event for the festival is taking place outside Dublin. With one week to go until LSAD, TUS hosts the First Frame Event for the Dublin International Film Festival, further information has been released on the Panel, Live Music as well as news of nominations for LSAD Students.
11 Dept of Digital Arts and Media projects have been shortlisted for diff First Frame awards 2023 out of a total of 40 films selected from Colleges and Institutions from around the country.
LSAD Creative Broadcast and Film Production nominated films are as follows:

GASP!, is a creative industry conference in Limerick on the 30th and 31st March. One of their events is Student Salon du Chat, and is running Friday 31st March from 10:30am – 12:00pm in Limerick city.
The GASP! Salon du Chat is specifically aimed at students studying creative and digital focussed courses such as design, media, UX, animation, web development, film production and broadcasting.
Students will sit at tables in groups of 3 to 5 and have the opportunity to chat in an informal and comfortable setting with senior professionals who have extensive experience and knowledge of the creative industries. The Salon du Chat menu is the ideal conversation starter for getting chatting to the creative professionals about their experiences in the industry, their recommendations for graduates, job opportunities, the work environment and more. Salon du Chat offers chat, without the chit. It’s networking but in a comfortable, curated and inspiring setting.

Beginning in mid January, a new In-House Production Unit, Film CEL, (Film Craftsmanship Excellence and Learning) will launch. This new addition to the Creative Broadcast and Film Production programme at LSAD, will provide a Media Work Practice structure around craftsmanship of content creation.
Through Film CEL students will have a structure of practice under the guidance and mentorship of a Coordinator. This
production section will be run jointly between academic staff and students with goals to provide professional film/broadcast and
video production content for LSAD/TUS content channels and where appropriate, Internal & external industry companies and
local Community Social, Arts and Cultural organisations on a not-for profit basis. Students working on an IPU production will be
managed by the coordinator, who would also work on and oversee productions. The aim of this IPU is to promote professional
craftsmanship culture within the discipline with the students while also providing opportunities for work placement with
professionals and discipline aligned organisations. Both work practice and skills will need to be demonstrated while meeting
learning outcomes for various production and post-production roles across a variety of forms and media, where appropriate.
In the coming weeks and months there will be updates on the progress as well as any news and events covered by the team.

The Festival Programme features Horror, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy! They have 27 Shorts, 2 Features, 2 Retrospectives (The original Hocus Pocus and 28 Days Later screened by EIFF at Arc Cinema Ennis) , 14 International Shorts, 13 Irish Shorts, 7 Student Shorts, 3 Irish Student Shorts, 5 Workshops, 1 industry panel, 1 Pitching Comp and a Whiskey Experience for after hours! They even have their very own festival beer – a blood orange infused ale (of course!) by local brewery Western Herd.
With the 3-in-a-row win by Limerick today, a special homecoming has been arranged to welcome the Limerick Team, management and support room staff at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Monday evening.

The Fresh Film Festival team are super excited to bring you Careers in Screen Mid West, a careers day for senior cycle students, taking place on Wednesday, March 30 as part of the Fresh International Film Festival 2022!
Ever wondered how to get started in the film and television industry? Careers in Screen is an informative and interactive audience-led event for Transition Year to 6th Year students, which aims to highlight the wide variety of career paths available in film and television. The event will explore the nature of filmmaking as a career and the different skill sets involved, and take a deeper look at the screen industry in Ireland.
Experienced speakers will discuss their own experiences working in the screen sector and give an insight into the collaborative process of film production. The event will also look at screen developments in the region and how best to get involved.
I am delighted to be one of the amazing guest speakers lined up for the Careers in Screen event.
Mike Boland, Studio Manager of Troy Studios, Ireland’s largest production facility will be there, as will Mark Maher, CEO and Founder of Odyssey Studios. The talented model maker has worked on the Hobbit, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Penny Dreadful, to name but a few!
Also in attendance will be Eimear O’Mahony, Executive Producer of Children and Young People’s Content for RTÉ! She has also worked as a producer on Winning Streak, Electric Picnic and even the Late Late Toy Show in 2018!
