On behalf of the students and academic staff of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme, LSAD,  I would like to formally invite you to attend the – Showcase19 –  screening on Thursday, April 11th in the Millennium Theatre.
The showcase is a visual celebration of short film screenings as well as film & music exhibitions. Films range from fiction, documentary, and animation presented by the students of Creative Broadcast & Film Production. The event offers an exciting opportunity to view the latest work of emerging film makers working in Limerick today.
Reception opens at 17:00, screenings & awards from 18:00.

The Art of The Documentary with award-winning documentary director Ken Wardrop

Creative Broadcast and Film Production LIT presents The Art of The Documentary with award-winning documentary director, Ken Wardrop on Thursday 7th March at LIT Moylish.

The events take place between 11-4pm and include a guest lecture, ‘Making the Grade’  film screening with Q&A and documenatry practice forum for students. All details below.

Ken Wardrop is one of Ireland’s most recognised documentary voices and is known for his award-winning work. His short films include the multi-award winning short documentary UNDRESSING MY MOTHER, which received a special mention at the Sundance Film Festival and a European Academy Award in 2005. Other award winning short films include THE HERD, USELESS DOG and FAREWELL PACKETS OF TEN. His debut feature documentary HIS & HERS won the World Cinema Excellence in Cinematography Award at Sundance 2010. His sophomore film “Mom and Me” screened at the prestigious 2016 Telluride Film Festival and picked up national and international awards including an IFTA for Best Documentary Feature. His latest film “Making the Grade” premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival and had a successful theatrical run in 2018.

A graduate of the National Film School of Ireland (IADT), Ken’s approach to film-making was first honed as a film student and since developed professionally into his unique style and creative voice. Ken demonstrates the importance of fostering professional relationships during College years as the foundation to his career success.

This event is not to be missed for anyone interested in developing a career in film making or the creative arts.

Insightful exploration of Ken’s unique approach to documentary production and commercial work.

1pm-2.45pm ‘Making The Grade’-  Lunchtime feature documentary screening (95mins) followed by Q&A with Director Ken Wardrop. MAKING THE GRADE invites us into the world of the piano lesson and is a story of the trans-formative power of music. A must-see for documentary, film and music enthusiasts alike.

Venue: Millennium Theatre.

RHIFF Awards Show

On Sunday 28th October, the staff and students of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production produced the Gala Awards show for the Richard Harris International Film Festival(RHIFF).

This was the second year the show was produced for the RHIFF. Previously it was produced for the Limerick Film Festival (LFF)(which joined with RHIFF in 2017)

Consisting of a three camera shoot and pre-edited award clips the show was attended by national and international film makers as well as some well known faces such as, Former WBO Middle Light Weight Boxing Champion Andy Lee, Actors; Jenny Lee Dixon, Nigel Mercier and representatives of Warner Bros UK and Warner Sisters Inc.

Richard Harris Film Festival Launch

This time 4 weeks we will be heading into our Live Script Read, followed by the Richard Harris Retrospective Screening and then…. The Awards Show and Gala Afterparty.

Simon McGuire is currently working on editing and compiling a wonderful awards show while the RHIFF Team Sylvia, Zeb Moore & Rob Gill and Clown Noir are putting together pre show entertainment that will knock your socks off.. in Millennium Theatre

Simon Filming ‘Granny’ and the Royal de Luxe for the short doc ‘One Giant Leap’

It has only been 4 years since she took her first steps in Limerick but it is still the most remembered weekend of the City of Culture 2014. It would be great to have the Royal de Luxe team back. Cheers again to Zeb Moore on giving his time back then for this short doc.

This week sees the arrival of the new first years to the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme at Limerick Institute of Technology.

With the return of all the other students on Sept 10th, this year will see a huge increase in numbers. We look forward to greeting everyone and working with students on multiple academic and creative events such as the Richard Harris International Film Festival in October, the LIT Music Festival and the Student Showcase in spring 2019.

For future students thinking of joining the programme in 2019 then watch this space for info on forthcoming open days at LIT and other Creative Technology Events.

RHIFF Call for Entries CLOSED

Its that time of year again and the Call for Entries for the 2018 Richard Harris International Film Festival is now CLOSED.

With an increase in interest again this year, work on the famous Live Awards Show is under way. As always the students and staff of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme at Limerick Institute of Technology will be putting together a great show for both the audience on the night and the world wide viewers of the live stream.

Course Profile: 
What is inside or outside the frame of a picture, the colours and shapes that the frame contains – these are some of the most important elements in what defines cinema. In this afternoon chat with Mark Cousins, we will go on a visual journey, exploring the story of looking in many art forms especially cinema and we will also discuss the emotion and meaning that can be produced by images. The talk will be chaired by Declan McGrath and is inspired by Mark’s new book, ‘The Story of Looking’.

Participant Profile: This talk is aimed at those working in the audio-visual sector who want to take some time out to discuss the importance of an image and its potential power.

About Mark Cousins: 
Mark Cousins is an Irish-Scottish film director, writer and occasional presenter/critic on film. He is a prolific producer and director and is best known for his 15-hour 2011 documentary ‘The Story of Film: An Odyssey’. He is returning to Galway on August 23rd to present his latest film ‘The Eyes of Orson Welles’, which includes details of Welles’ time spent in Connemara in 1931.

About Declan McGrath:
Belfast man, Declan McGrath, has recently directed and produced Lomax in Éirinn for TG4 and the BAI. In 2016, he directed and produced Mary McAleese & The Man Who Saved Europe for RTÉ and BBC (winner of the Radharc Award for Best Historical Documentary 2016). Declan has also written two books on the craft of cinema and contributes to the American film magazine, ‘Cineaste’.
