RHIFF Awards Show

On Sunday 28th October, the staff and students of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production produced the Gala Awards show for the Richard Harris International Film Festival(RHIFF).

This was the second year the show was produced for the RHIFF. Previously it was produced for the Limerick Film Festival (LFF)(which joined with RHIFF in 2017)

Consisting of a three camera shoot and pre-edited award clips the show was attended by national and international film makers as well as some well known faces such as, Former WBO Middle Light Weight Boxing Champion Andy Lee, Actors; Jenny Lee Dixon, Nigel Mercier and representatives of Warner Bros UK and Warner Sisters Inc.

LIMERICK OPEN DAYS 2018

Limerick Institute of Technology Autumn Open Days 2018 will take place at the Moylish and Clare Street, Limerick campuses on Thursday 18th October and Friday 19th October from 9.30am – 2.00pm.

When you’re thinking about what college to choose, it can be a daunting process – there are so many factors to consider, from course choice and location to accommodation costs. As a student in LIT, you will enjoy a fun and rewarding college journey.

LIT is among the most vibrant and connected institutions in Ireland. Each of our campuses is a community of learners, where you can get to know your classmates and lecturers in a relaxed and positive environment. We deliver over 120 courses to students through our 5 campuses in Limerick, Thurles and Clonmel, along with our Education Centre in Ennis.

So, come along to our Open Days and learn more! These days are an ideal opportunity for you to sample our wonderful facilities first-hand and gain further information on the wide variety of courses available at LIT. Each day, you can meet with representatives from our Academic Faculties and Departments, meet current LIT students and avail of presentations and campus tours.

At Moylish campus, an introductory presentation will commence every 30 minutes from 9.30am; the last presentation will commence at 1.00pm.

Students that have a specific interest in Art and Design programmes should visit our Clare Street campus where specific information on our Art & Design programmes will be available. Talks pertaining to the Art and Design programmes will take place at the Clare Street campus. Specialist Art and Design talks will run throughout the day at LSAD, Clare Street, along with tours of studio spaces and other facilities.

NOTE: To ensure that all students get equal access to lecturers and facilities, we have to enforce hourly limits on the numbers we can facilitate on campus.  As a result, Open Day bookings (for school groups) are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so it is advisable to contact our Schools Liaison team without delay should you wish to attend on either day.

This time 4 weeks we will be heading into our Live Script Read, followed by the Richard Harris Retrospective Screening and then…. The Awards Show and Gala Afterparty.

Simon McGuire is currently working on editing and compiling a wonderful awards show while the RHIFF Team Sylvia, Zeb Moore & Rob Gill and Clown Noir are putting together pre show entertainment that will knock your socks off.. in Millennium Theatre

Shadow Directing Opportunity – The Last Right

Screen Training Ireland is seeking applications from female directors interested in a shadow directing opportunity on upcoming film production The Last Right.

Due to the nature of production the opportunity will have a fluid form but the overall objective will be to provide participants with exposure and experience on a feature film set, and ultimately to help increase the number of future productions directed by female talent.

This is not a training scheme and the shadowing opportunity is not open to entry-level talent. The focus is on career advancement. There is a modest stipend provided and the duration of the shoot is 5 weeks, starting in early November, with a potential extra week or two either side to also get some pre/post experience.

Essential requirements:

• Candidates must be female, and have directed at least one short film that has had an award-qualifying festival premiere, or TV broadcast

• Candidates must have a director, assistant director, or DOP credit on at least two short films, and/or one feature film

• Candidates must able to provide a link to an up to date showreel and provide a current director CV

• Candidates are expected to be self-starters, with a positive attitude, who have on-set experience and who recognise this role is to assist and shadow the director

• Candidates must have a current, clean driving licence and their own car

Welcome Students to Creative Broadcast & Film Production 2018

This week sees the arrival of the new first years to the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme at Limerick Institute of Technology.

With the return of all the other students on Sept 10th, this year will see a huge increase in numbers. We look forward to greeting everyone and working with students on multiple academic and creative events such as the Richard Harris International Film Festival in October, the LIT Music Festival and the Student Showcase in spring 2019.

For future students thinking of joining the programme in 2019 then watch this space for info on forthcoming open days at LIT and other Creative Technology Events.

RHIFF Call for Entries CLOSED

Its that time of year again and the Call for Entries for the 2018 Richard Harris International Film Festival is now CLOSED.

With an increase in interest again this year, work on the famous Live Awards Show is under way. As always the students and staff of the Creative Broadcast & Film Production programme at Limerick Institute of Technology will be putting together a great show for both the audience on the night and the world wide viewers of the live stream.

Keep an eye out on the festival website HERE as well as social media for further information in the coming weeks.

2018 Radharc Awards

Radharc is very pleased to announce the Call for Entries to the Radharc Awards 2018.

The Awards event will take place on Friday 26th October in the Talbot Stillorgan Hotel Mount Merrion County Dublin.

The Radharc Awards seek to celebrate excellence in documentary filmmaking and to acknowledge films of outstanding quality in the spirit of Radharc.

The Radharc Awards were established in 2002 to honour the memory of Fr Joe Dunn and Radharc’s achievements in religious affairs programmes for Irish television from 1962 to 1997, and to encourage similar quality documentary production amongst filmmakers in Ireland today.

Awards are presented every two years to the producers of documentaries for Television and Digital Media which are of outstanding quality and that address national or international topics of social justice, history, morality and faith.

The producer of the winning production for Television will receive the bronze Radharc trophy.

The winner of the documentary for Digital Media will receive a signed decorative scroll.   Further decorative scrolls may be awarded for productions that are highly commended

Category One: An award for documentaries broadcast in the qualifying period on any free to air channel on the island of Ireland.

Category Two: An award for non-broadcast documentaries produced during the same period for digital media.

It is this category (2) that should interest to third level students which is for non- televised films  in the ethos of Radharc films of old and which can be of any  length from 5 minutes upwards.

The Radharc Awards are highly coveted by film schools and students around the country and they are encouraged to submit an entry for the forthcoming awards event. The closing date for entries is  the 1st October next .

D3 Fundamental & Advanced Training Course

Screen Training Ireland are delighted to partner with High Res in association with disguise to host the first ‘D3 Fundamental & Advanced Training Course’ in Ireland, which will take place in Dublin at the end of July.  The course will be led by Chris Simcock, an official D3 disguise trainer, who has tailored this course to suit the demands of the current film & television industry.

D3 is a state of the art media server. It is one of the first servers to have the capability to output 10 bit processing depth and is quickly becoming the primary media server platform for live and broadcast environments. The D3’s cutting edge technology can manage and synchronise a variety of different output sources, from LED screens, to projection systems, as well as tracking realtime data from systems like scenery motion control, making it a powerful collaborative tool in helping creative production teams realise their vision.

The course will run over 3 days from Tuesday 24th to Thursday the 26th of July 2018.
