Shadow Directing Opportunity – The Last Right

Screen Training Ireland is seeking applications from female directors interested in a shadow directing opportunity on upcoming film production The Last Right.

Due to the nature of production the opportunity will have a fluid form but the overall objective will be to provide participants with exposure and experience on a feature film set, and ultimately to help increase the number of future productions directed by female talent.

This is not a training scheme and the shadowing opportunity is not open to entry-level talent. The focus is on career advancement. There is a modest stipend provided and the duration of the shoot is 5 weeks, starting in early November, with a potential extra week or two either side to also get some pre/post experience.

Essential requirements:

• Candidates must be female, and have directed at least one short film that has had an award-qualifying festival premiere, or TV broadcast

• Candidates must have a director, assistant director, or DOP credit on at least two short films, and/or one feature film

• Candidates must able to provide a link to an up to date showreel and provide a current director CV

• Candidates are expected to be self-starters, with a positive attitude, who have on-set experience and who recognise this role is to assist and shadow the director

• Candidates must have a current, clean driving licence and their own car

D3 Fundamental & Advanced Training Course

Screen Training Ireland are delighted to partner with High Res in association with disguise to host the first ‘D3 Fundamental & Advanced Training Course’ in Ireland, which will take place in Dublin at the end of July.  The course will be led by Chris Simcock, an official D3 disguise trainer, who has tailored this course to suit the demands of the current film & television industry.

D3 is a state of the art media server. It is one of the first servers to have the capability to output 10 bit processing depth and is quickly becoming the primary media server platform for live and broadcast environments. The D3’s cutting edge technology can manage and synchronise a variety of different output sources, from LED screens, to projection systems, as well as tracking realtime data from systems like scenery motion control, making it a powerful collaborative tool in helping creative production teams realise their vision.

The course will run over 3 days from Tuesday 24th to Thursday the 26th of July 2018.

RTE Screenings on Short Screen

RTÉ2 will screen The Limerick Film Trilogy over three weeks in November on the Monday night Shortscreen slot and will also be available on the RTÉ Player afterwards. The trilogy consists of three short films that were made with the support of Limerick 2020 in partnership with Behind The Scenes. The scheme also received assistance from Screen Training Ireland. The dates for screening are:
LIMERICK TRILOGY – Day Off – 7th Nov ’16
LIMERICK TRILOGY – The Apparel – 14th Nov ’16
LIMERICK TRILOGY – Date: Time – 21st Nov ’16

Up first tonight, (12:05 RTE 2) is ‘Day Off’ written by Peter McNamara and directed by Steve Hall under the guidance of Gerry Stembridge. Day Off has also just won the Newport Beach award at the Richard Harris International Film Festival in Limerick last week.

ANIMATION and VFX TRAINEESHIP 2015 Call for Applications

SONG-OF-THE-SEA-2-640x426Screen Training Ireland and Animation Skillnet are seeking applicants for a pilot one-year Traineeship Programme for Animation and VFX.

The Traineeship programme aims to partner 10 trainees with 10 animation/VFX studios for one full year. Over the course of the programme, the trainee will work in-house in the studio where they will receive on the job training. In addition to on-the-job training, the trainee will receive additional tailored training through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland.

The curriculum for the year of training is developed in close consultation with industry, and will combine training in core skills for animation/VFX with specialist and studio-specific knowledge and skills.

The traineeship will be divided into two main fields, both of which will be further divided into two training pathways:

1. Animation

Training Pathway 1: 2D
Training Pathway 2: 3D

2. VFX

Training Pathway 1: Compositing
Training Pathway 2: CG

The programme may also offer a parallel Technical Direction for VFX and Animation pathway, subject to demand.

All pathways will intersect where there are commonalities in terms of training needs, and all trainees across all four tracks will participate in core modules.

The Traineeship programme will commence in March 2015.

A training allowance/bursary will be made available to selected participants.

Applicants should apply via email with a CV and showreel and/or portfolio to Screen Training Ireland and Animation Skillnet at traineeship@screentrainingireland.ie with “Animation/VFX Traineeship” in the subject header. Applicants should identify the skills area/training pathway they are interested in pursuing, e.g. VFX: Compositing, 2D Animation, etc. Applicants will be evaluated and shortlisted for interview by a panel of industry experts, in consultation with Screen Training Ireland/IFB/Animation Skillnet. Only those who are shortlisted will be called for interview.

Deadline for applications is Friday 20th February 2015.
