Adobe announces (for NAB 2023) a new text-based option for Premiere as well as a properties panel for AE.

The link to this can be found here: https://blog.adobe.com/en/publish/2023/04/13/nab-2023-introducing-text-based-editing-premiere-pro-properties-panel-after-effects-more

Adobe looks at this as a game changer for editors, citing “an entirely new way to edit that makes creating a rough cut as simple as copying and pasting text. We’ve worked hard to make Premiere Pro today the fastest and most stable version we have ever released, and we’ve added dozens of improvements that editors have been asking for, like automatic tone mapping, background auto save, enhanced collaboration tools, and more.”

Editors, what do we think of this new addition to the premiere tools? Leave a comment on your thoughts.

Beginning in mid January, a new In-House Production Unit, Film CEL, (Film Craftsmanship Excellence and Learning) will launch. This new addition to the Creative Broadcast and Film Production programme at LSAD, will provide a Media Work Practice structure around craftsmanship of content creation.

Through Film CEL students will have a structure of practice under the guidance and mentorship of a Coordinator. This

production section will be run jointly between academic staff and students with goals to provide professional film/broadcast and

video production content for LSAD/TUS content channels and where appropriate, Internal & external industry companies and

local Community Social, Arts and Cultural organisations on a not-for profit basis. Students working on an IPU production will be

managed by the coordinator, who would also work on and oversee productions. The aim of this IPU is to promote professional

craftsmanship culture within the discipline with the students while also providing opportunities for work placement with

professionals and discipline aligned organisations. Both work practice and skills will need to be demonstrated while meeting

learning outcomes for various production and post-production roles across a variety of forms and media, where appropriate.

In the coming weeks and months there will be updates on the progress as well as any news and events covered by the team.

The team members receiving the award at Croke Park

The RSA Leading Lights Awards show took place at Croke Park on December 13th where the Moyross Youth Academy and other stakeholders won the Education Primary Award.

Education Primary – Moyross Youth Academy, Limerick

The project aimed to raise awareness of the dangers and risks associated with the misuse of scrambler bikes and quads in urban areas. During Covid-19, the area had seen an increase in this activity with very limited opportunities to address the issue with the then ongoing restrictions. The idea of a road safety awareness documentary scrambler edition evolved from group discussions with interested parties including Limerick City and County Council, An Garda Síochána, National Ambulance Service, TUS and others.

The project in May 2021 involved the launch of a road safety campaign in the community with the staging of a road crash involving a scrambler and a car, along with the emergency response. This event was witnessed by 6th class students from Corpus Christi School. It was followed by a discussion on road safety between the students, Advanced Paramedic Keith Mullane, and Sergeant Tony Miniter from Limerick Roads Policing Unit. This was then followed by a launch of the new documentary on the issue, ‘Keeping It On Track’ which was shown locally and is available on Facebook.

The documentary was filmed and directed by Simon McGuire with the voice over by Vera Knowles. It can be viewed again on the link below:
