Hi all

Here is episode 10 of Limerick Insider. Nice feeling that we are now in double digits for this programme. Here’s to the next ten!!!

Watch out for our team filming in around Limerick City and County in the coming months.

This month’s Limerick Insider features National Heritage Week Limerick events, MIlford Hospice Harvest Fair,
the 2011 Thomond Swim and Munster’s largest agricultural show – the Limerick Show.
We also bring you coverage of the One Step at a Time Challenge where below the knee amputee, Simon Baker, successfully walked from Dublin to Limerick on crutches on one leg!
After 5.5 days, Simon and his One Step at a Time team arrived in Limerick City on the 27th of August 2011 after walking a total of 233 km in aid of the ISPCC/CHILDLINE.

Here is the july episode of Limerick Insider.

July was another busy month in Limerick with fantastic events like the Pig n Porter Tag Rugby Festival, the Athea Road Races, the Beast of Ballyhoura and the Irish Festival of Speed taking place. There was cause for great celebration in Limerick with the Milk Market winning the prestigious ‘Public Choice Award’ at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2011.

Filmed very recently, was the promotional video for Flexyfoot. The Flexyfoot ferrule was invented by product designer David Goodwin. David’s design team has over 25 years experience in creating innovative, stylish and commercially successful products and have won numerous international awards for their design achievements.

In the video Simon Baker and Jason Kenny tell of the products advantages to Simon and all about the upcoming challenge Simon will take of walking from Dublin to Limerick (22nd to 27th August) using the crutches and the Flexyfoot.

On Sunday 20th Feb saw the filming of multiple fight sequences for the short film Scumbag Millionaire. The early morning shoot involved both Mark Griffin and myself as crew, with Jason Kenny organizing the fight stunts and Francis Ryan playing the lead part as ‘Danny’.

As you can see from the photos taken by John Garrett, the scene had some high energy hits.

Post Production has started on the pic with just a few scenes left to be shot. The film with get its debut showing at the LIT Film Festival in April of this year. It is also hoped that it will be entered into this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

More Soon.

Film Ireland have written an article detailing the 2nd Annual LIT FILM Festival 2011.

This is fantastic coverage for the festival. We are hoping that the rest of the national media will pick up on this article and go one better by covering the weeks events and promoting film and video production in the Mid-West. A special thanks to Eleanor McSherry on writing the piece.

Here’s the article in full as per the FilmIreland.net site

LIMERICK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY 2ND ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

ExclusivesFeaturedNews

Want a chance to show off that film that’s on your mobile? Or that YouTube movie that you filmed last summer? Or your final year project for college that you sweated buckets over to make? Well Limerick City’s Technical College might just have the Film Festival for you!

In 2010 Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) assistant lecturer and media professional, Simon McGuire realised that there was a need for a film festival for third level students in the Mid West. He wanted to provide a place to showcase new talent. With the current rise in film production courses and with the popularity of websites like YouTube, it seemed like just the ticket.

In its inaugural year (2010) the festival boasted a strong attendance on the day with 20 people attending the Workshops and 120 attending the awards night at the Millennium Theatre. Also there were 223 viewers (approx) online watching the live video stream (using six cameras) on www.litvchannel.net. The judging panel consisted of members of the professional media industry, who represented technical and non-technical areas. They included Matt Kelly and Marion Malone of Matt Kelly Productions and Laura Ryan of the Limerick Co-ordination office. This was excellent for a first run and showed that there was a definite need for this kind of festival in the Mid West.

Last year’s festival was only a one-day event and open to third-level students. This year the festival will be over five days and open to the general public. It will not just be about the film competition either as there will be plenty for those interested in getting into the film industry in Ireland. There will be a variety of talks, workshops, film viewings, an awards night, an industry exhibition and much more, all given by industry professionals. Its founder has great ambitions for the potential of this style of festival and they hope to add much more to its programme over the next couple of years.

The criteria for the film competition is quite open. There is no limit on the length of film. It can be in any genre. The entry form deadline is the 28th of January, with the film entry deadline on the 31st of March 2011. There is also no entry fee. All they ask is that it is on a DVD and can be played easily. So far they have a lot of interested from all over the country.

The festival will take place from the 11th to the 15th of April, 2011 in Limerick Institute of Technology. So don’t just sit there and wonder ‘what if’. Get out and film something, be creative and send it off. You never know!

Filming continued today on the short film ‘Scumbag Millionaire’. Actors Francis Ryan (Danny), Jason Kenny (Tommy), Darren Maher (Mick) and John Caplis (Bob) were on location for a difficult early morning start. As you can see in the pictures several locations in the Pery Square area of Limerick were used. Due to the snowy weather the night before extra care was needed to ensure that both the chase scene and fight scene went ahead without injury to any cast and crew. Well done to all involved and thanks for putting up with the cold, early morning start.

Also a special thanks to Jason and Francis for hauling the boxes, mats and tyres for the fight stunt.
