In celebration of its 25th year, the IOV has changed the name of its annual event to simply… ‘ProVideo’. But this isn’t

merely a name change for the sake of change. ProVideo 2010 has been introduced for three very good reasons:

􀁏 To emphasise that the event caters for more than just IOV members.

􀁏 To welcome the involvement of other related-industry trade associations.

􀁏 To focus the minds of our exhibitors, attendees, speakers and the press on what the event is really about.

ProVideo 2010 will host a comprehensive range of seminars, workshops

and presentations. This will include the launch of a new set of VideoSkills

presentations and workshops, as well as exhibitor-led presentations in our

exhibition floor theatres.

The networking aspect to this type of event is becoming more and more

important. Online forums, industry websites and magazines simply can’t

substitute the benefits of face-to-face networking. ProVideo 2010 will

foster, promote and cater for delegate and exhibitor networking with a

comfortable featured zone at the centre of the exhibition floor.

Norman Wisdom 1915-2010

I woke this morning to find that one of my childhood heros, Norman Wisdom had passed away after a long long life of 95 years. It was my father who introduced me to him on VHS tape recordings from the TV. I found that I would be glued to his antics on the screen as well as his unlimited expressions of reactions on his face.

A true genius of the comedy era and an icon for all upcoming and current performers in the comedy world. (Charlie Chaplin called him ‘my favorite clown’)

Hi All

I was wondering if I could start a conversation on the introduction of the NLE (Non Linear Editing Software) to the editing profession. What are your thoughts on this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the digital video workstation?

Are there aspects of the Linear world that are missed in todays workflows?

I welcome any comments.
Simon.

Last week saw Applebox Media film another scene for the short film Scumbag Millionaire starring Francis Ryan. This scene was filmed on location at the Carpark on Lower Gearldgriffin Street, in Limerick. Penned by Francis and yours truly, the story tells of one mans struggle to get to the top of a gang but quickly realises that its getting out is the goal when alot of money comes into play.

In this scene Francis is met by his friend Will, played by Sean Flynn, who provides him with transport to get around and to avoid being seen.

This production is due to be complete by January 2011.
