A year on from ‘ The Nightflyers’ programme beginning their production at the Limerick studio, today’s announcement by the Troy board is welcomed by the investors, industry and educational bodies.

With Siún Ní Raghallaigh, Ozzy Kilkenny and Joe Devine taking the microphone this morning, there was a lot of celebrate as well as to look forward to in the coming weeks, months and years to come.

While tributes were being paid to a number of key staff for their hard work over the last number of years, the key points of this mornings well attended announcement focused on how “Troy Studios is on the lips of production executives in California”.

A fourth sound stage will be created to compliment the three existing stages, two of which are housing elements or sets for Nightflyers which screens in the US in December.

150 people will be employed for construction and it is envisioned that there will be further

multiples from what nightflyers generated.

Troy is delivering and a driver for the Audio Video industry, according to Joe Devine, and with the increase demand for content, Limerick and Ireland are well placed on the global film map with today’s announcement.

The studio expansion will also drive local industry as well as training events and special Troy talks with recognized industry guests.

A new BA in Business of Content Production is also being created through educational partner University of Limerick.

There is a prediction of a 30% growth in the film industry over next 5 years and the Section 481 tax incentive still has protential to attract further international investment.

Partnership with all the local educators is vital and further developments with the likes of Limerick Institute of Technology, Limerick School of Art and Design, University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College and Limerick College of Further Education, will be in progress in the coming months and years to come.

Following on from yesterday’s ‘first look’ trailer release, we were delighted to have episode director of Nightflyers; Maggie Kiley, to give a talk to the Creative Broadcast & Film Production and Music Technology students at the Millennium Theatre this lunchtime.

Giving her unique insight to film making, Maggie answered numerous questions from students and staff about her experience and previous award winning projects, not to mention her time on Nightflyers (without giving away any secrets).

Nightflyers has released the first look trailer to its much anticipated series. Filmed in Troy Studios, Limerick, the crew is made up of many talented people, 30% of which is claimed to be local talent.

The series is a production of NBC Universal and Universal Cable Productions and is adapted from the 1987 George RR Martin novella of the same name. Netflix will co-produce the series and will have first-run rights to the series outside of the US. It is due to air on the Syfy Channel in the US and on Netflix worldwide in the Autumn 2018.

New to the CAO for 2018 is the Creative Broadcast & Film Production Level 8 programme based in the Moylish Campus of LIT.

This practical based programme is over four years and includes modules across a range of departments of Broadcast and Film Production.
