New €10M Film Investment Fund Launched in Limerick

Amcomri Entertainment €10m RHIFF Investment Fund

Taking place at King John’s Castle on Tuesday 16th August, and ahead of the RHIFF’s tenth year – which runs from October 26-31, was a special launch of both a new partnership between the Richard Harris International Film Festival (FHIFF) and Amcomri Entertainment Inc. (AMEN)and a Film Funding Scheme worth 10 million Euro.

Amcomri Entertainment Inc. will make available a new film investment fund of €10m to entrants of the 2022 Richard Harris International Film Festival, while also announcing confirmation as the primary commercial sponsor for the Richard Harris International Film Festival.

The funds can be invested across a number of film projects as selected by the Amcomri Entertainment Film Committee, with funding available to entrants of the 2022 RHIFF as well as previous entrants to the festival. The investments are for feature films (not shorts), animations and documentaries.

Robert Price, Chief Executive Officer of Amcomri spoke to the audience of dignitaries and the local film making community about how this new relationship with the RHIFF will work.

“At Amcomri, we work to encourage project dialogue for film financing, publishing and international distribution and sales so we are thrilled to sponsor this year’s RHIFF. We want to continue to develop long-term relationships which can grow to multi-deal co-production activity and are eager to receive the applicants to the AMEN Film Investment Fund”

Terms and Conditions

  • Projects eligible for the fund MUST be submitted through the portal only. DO NOT email scripts or treatments.
  • The fund (and the decision making process) is entirely separate from RHIFF. The Richard Harris International Film Festival does not have a final say in this process.
  • The directors and any volunteers or contractors associated with RHIFF have no involvement in the selection process of the fund. NO Canvassing RHIFF staff.
  • Amcomri Entertainment does not provide early development funding – each project needs to be developed to the draft, script, & budget stage as a minimum requirement.
  • The investments are for feature films, animations & documentaries.
  • Applications to be made no later than 31/12/2022.
  • Waivers for administration fee will not be granted.
  • Applying to the fund does not guarantee selection at the festival and any submissions to the festival should only be done through film freeway nor does selection at the festival this year or in previous years guarantee that a project is eligible.
  • Each and any investment will be at Amcomri’s sole discretion and based upon their commercial investment criteria.
  • Applicants acknowledge that Amcomri receives a large number of applications from producers globally and that Amcomri will not be liable for an inadvertent similarities between any materials submitted to Amcomri and any film produced with Amcomri funding by another party.
  • Informal approaches (other than queries on the application process & eligibility) and pitches will not be entertained and will be disregarded and this may affect the eligibility of the project.

Copyright & Ownership

  • Writer, Director, and Producer credit will remain with the original filmmaking team.
  • All ownership and rights to material submitted to the investment program remains with the original rights holder until and unless other agreements are made.
  • Should your project be awarded funding, you are not obligated to accept it until and unless other agreements are made.

Film Limerick Flies Again

Following their recent successful broadcast screenings, two of the three short films of the Film Limerick Trilogy, Day Off and The Apparel have followed in the footsteps of their trilogy brother DATE:TIME and are now currently screening on Aer Lingus flights to and from the USA.

Date:Time Screens on RTE

So the final of the Film limerick Trilogy; Date:Time, screened on RTE 2 last night and is now available on the RTE Player. This marks the end of the journey for me on these three films as editor. The goals of this project have been achieved and there is much to be proud of by all the cast and crew involved.

The hope now is that the legacy will continue and not be dismissed. If the films encourage more film making in limerick then mission accomplished.

I for one am looking forward to the next batch of films to be produced and hopefully we can expand the talent to meet the demands of Troy Studios and other ventures in the future.

The Apparel Screens on RTE Tonight

RTÉ2 are screening The Limerick Film Trilogy in November on the Monday night Shortscreen slot and will also be available on the RTÉ Player afterwards. The trilogy consists of three short films that were made with the support of Limerick 2020 in partnership with Behind The Scenes. The scheme also received assistance from Screen Training Ireland. The dates for screening are:
LIMERICK TRILOGY – Day Off – 7th Nov ’16
LIMERICK TRILOGY – The Apparel – 14th Nov ’16 
LIMERICK TRILOGY – Date: Time – 21st Nov ’16

Up next tonight, (12:05 RTE 2) is ‘The Apparel’ written by Dan Mooney and directed by Peter Delaney under the guidance of Gerry Stembridge.

Delighted to announce that one of the Film Limerick Trilogy, of which I was the editor, has been nominated for Best Irish Film at the Kinsale Shark Awards. Gold Winners will be announced at our Awards Dinner Ceremony in Kinsale on Thurs 22nd September 2016.

Day Off to screen at Galway Film Fleadh

After a number of months in planning, production and postproduction the news that came in, that one of the Film Limerick Trilogy has been successful in selection to this year’s Galway Fleadh has given a boost to all who worked on it. From the writer Peter McNamara, (who has been busy with other projects state side, namely ‘Narcan’ (coming soon)) to the director Stephen Hall, (also busy with other projects that have screened home and abroad), the crew of the film and the Behind The Scenes team  (namely Mark Griffin who went above and beyond for the project) this acknowledgement by the Fleadh is something special, inspiring and encouraging.

The scope of the Film Limerick project was not for the faint hearted. To bring the three stories together with three writers and three directors took organising and at times needed a delicate professional hand to harmonise everything together and allow the interweaving of the narratives, characters and locations of Limerick city to compliment each other. Project mentor Gerard Stembridge and project manager Ronan Cassidy brought all this together and with the support of the Limerick City of Culture, Behind the Scenes, Limerick 2020, Limerick Institute of Technology. Even though ‘Day Off’ was the only one of the three selected this by no means is a reflection on the other two films of the trilogy, ‘The Apparel’ and ‘Date:Time’. The same amount of hard work, dedication and attention to detail was given to all three and the fruits of the labour of all cast and crew involved can be seen in every shot and piece of sound. This was certainly evident when all three had their cast and crew screening at the Limerick Film Festival back in April to an audience of nearly two hundred.

As editor on the trilogy, i’m taking great pride in the effort from everyone’s talent and patience with these films. I would encourage everyone to take a look at all three when ever you get a chance to see the film making talent that is growing in this city and region. They need the support and encouragement to continue their passion and goals. Film in Limerick needs to be supported now and into the future, whether the Limerick 2020 bid is successful or not… culture is not just for one year it’s for life and the Film Limerick Project has been only one part of many available by different groups and individuals in the city. It has achieved its goals set way back between the Limerick City of Culture 2014 team and Behind the Scenes. Regardless of people’s difference of opinion of each other, the trilogy films… all films… created in Limerick should not suffer… it is our creativity,… our art,… our culture and long may we continue to practice!

We are in the final stages of the Offline cut of the Film Limerick Trilogy. The short films, The Apparel, Day Off and Date:Time are now being spotted by the music composers and the final preparations for the delivery to the online and sound mixing team will take place in the coming weeks.

In what has been an ambitious project, realised by Film Limerick Project manager, Ronan Cassidy, and Irish writer and Director Gerry Stembridge, the trilogy of films has brought together both professional and aspiring film makers in Limerick to create a film cultural legacy that will hopefully continue for many years to come.

As editor on the three films, I have had the opportunity not only to work with three new directors and experience their vision for the stories but I have also had the opportunity to train in three assistant editors and give them a practical and first person view of the craft of editing, here at the facilities of Limerick Institute of Technology.

Maeve Humphreys, Patryk Czekalski and Mark Griffin have all worked on scenes for the films as well as give their interpretation and input to the ideas of the films. Similar training opportunities were given on set by Gerry, Ronan and the DOP Paddy Jordan to the different production departments, giving this project its unique selling point for future investment. In some cases the trainees have had other opportunities to work on professional productions around the country which in turn cements the early success of the Film Limerick Trilogy before its even been completed.

As the online post production, grading and sound mixing are nearing, there is a sense of anticipation for the premiere screening of these films by the cast and crew. Also with the impending new academic year in the third level institutions such as Limerick Institute of Technology and Limerick College of Further Education, it is hoped that current and incoming students take advantage of the possible future opportunities that may arise from the back of this project.

The production on the final film, Date:Time, of the Film Limerick Training Trilogy has finished. With a tired cast and crew it is now down to the Post Production team to work their magic and deliver the trilogy in the coming months.

A big thank you to everyone who was involved and a big shout out to the film making talent of Limerick in getting behind this ambitious project.
