Click here for the Music Video

This weekend saw the filming of the music video for a new track from Limerick artist Asa Fitzpatrick, called Decisions. With writing by another local man David Murphy, the song tackles the issues surrounding the upcoming general elections and the choices the people of Ireland have to make taking into account the state of the country.

All of the video was shot at numerous locations around Limerick City. The day of the shoot was dogged by poor weather but the team at AppleBox Media, pushed on video already released on YouTube. There will be  special performances at different events during the coming weeks.

Film Ireland have written an article detailing the 2nd Annual LIT FILM Festival 2011.

This is fantastic coverage for the festival. We are hoping that the rest of the national media will pick up on this article and go one better by covering the weeks events and promoting film and video production in the Mid-West. A special thanks to Eleanor McSherry on writing the piece.

Here’s the article in full as per the FilmIreland.net site

LIMERICK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY 2ND ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

Tue, Jan 18, 2011

ExclusivesFeaturedNews

Want a chance to show off that film that’s on your mobile? Or that YouTube movie that you filmed last summer? Or your final year project for college that you sweated buckets over to make? Well Limerick City’s Technical College might just have the Film Festival for you!

In 2010 Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) assistant lecturer and media professional, Simon McGuire realised that there was a need for a film festival for third level students in the Mid West. He wanted to provide a place to showcase new talent. With the current rise in film production courses and with the popularity of websites like YouTube, it seemed like just the ticket.

In its inaugural year (2010) the festival boasted a strong attendance on the day with 20 people attending the Workshops and 120 attending the awards night at the Millennium Theatre. Also there were 223 viewers (approx) online watching the live video stream (using six cameras) on www.litvchannel.net. The judging panel consisted of members of the professional media industry, who represented technical and non-technical areas. They included Matt Kelly and Marion Malone of Matt Kelly Productions and Laura Ryan of the Limerick Co-ordination office. This was excellent for a first run and showed that there was a definite need for this kind of festival in the Mid West.

Last year’s festival was only a one-day event and open to third-level students. This year the festival will be over five days and open to the general public. It will not just be about the film competition either as there will be plenty for those interested in getting into the film industry in Ireland. There will be a variety of talks, workshops, film viewings, an awards night, an industry exhibition and much more, all given by industry professionals. Its founder has great ambitions for the potential of this style of festival and they hope to add much more to its programme over the next couple of years.

The criteria for the film competition is quite open. There is no limit on the length of film. It can be in any genre. The entry form deadline is the 28th of January, with the film entry deadline on the 31st of March 2011. There is also no entry fee. All they ask is that it is on a DVD and can be played easily. So far they have a lot of interested from all over the country.

The festival will take place from the 11th to the 15th of April, 2011 in Limerick Institute of Technology. So don’t just sit there and wonder ‘what if’. Get out and film something, be creative and send it off. You never know!

Film Entry Viewing at the Millennium Theatre, LIT

And on the success of last years event, the Awards Night for the Film Competition itself followed by an after show party to round off the night and to end the Festival.

Broadcaster adds Canon’s XF305 and XF300 to list of camcorders approved for both internal and external HD production
Canon confirms that its XF305 and XF300 Full HD camcorders have now been added to the BBC list of approved HD cameras, allowing them to be used to produce an entire HD programme for broadcast on the corporation’s HD channels.

Both camcorders were initially approved in June 2010 for use by independent productions, but have now also been accepted for internal BBC production use. Following recent testing, the broadcaster has opted to buy XF305 camcorders, the first of which were delivered in December 2010.

Kieran Magee, Director of Professional Marketing at Canon Europe Ltd, added: “The XF300-series was specifically designed to offer exceptional image quality and seamless workflow compatibility for all sorts of professional uses. Canon worked with many broadcasters during development of these camcorders, and the adoption of these cameras by the BBC reflects our commitment to imaging excellence and meeting our customers’ needs.”

About the XF305 and XF300
XF305 and XF305 were launched in April 2010 at the NAB show in Las Vegas. They are the first hand-held, file-based video cameras to use a new MPEG-2 Full HD (4:2:2) recording codec, with data transfer rates of up to 50Mbps.

These two revolutionary cameras also offer a unique Canon L-series HD Video Lens, highly advanced DIGIC DV III processing and an ergonomic design that delivers advanced mobility and versatility. The featured 1/3-type Canon 3CMOS sensor system offers exceptional colour accuracy, wide-dynamic range and low noise.

Recording to CompactFlash Memory card, these models offer a huge range of features including slow and fast motion, and extensive image and operational customisation options.

Filming continued today on the short film ‘Scumbag Millionaire’. Actors Francis Ryan (Danny), Jason Kenny (Tommy), Darren Maher (Mick) and John Caplis (Bob) were on location for a difficult early morning start. As you can see in the pictures several locations in the Pery Square area of Limerick were used. Due to the snowy weather the night before extra care was needed to ensure that both the chase scene and fight scene went ahead without injury to any cast and crew. Well done to all involved and thanks for putting up with the cold, early morning start.

Also a special thanks to Jason and Francis for hauling the boxes, mats and tyres for the fight stunt.

If there is a topic or subject you would like to see discussed by an industry expert then let us know on the email address below.

We will use the feedback to book workshops according to demand.
