The debut short film by writer Tommy C Conlon will have its premiere tomorrow night at The Red Hen on Patrick’s Street from 8:30pm.
Play it again son! Will see local actors such as Pius McGrath and Miles Breen star in a period drama based on the iconic and controversial character, Sean South.
Along with other shorts Kevin Keily Jr.’s Movies at The Mezz is becoming very popular amoungst the film loving and making community in Limerick and Monday night’s programme is set to impress again.

Limerick City of Culture in partnership with Behind the Scenes are pleased to announce the creation of a unique and exciting scheme, Film Limerick.
The Film Limerick project presents a fantastic opportunity for new and emerging filmmakers to get their films made with both funding and industry support. This funding initiative aims to nurture creative filmmaking, and at the same time facilitating the long term goal of encouraging both established and emerging filmmakers to Limerick.
Film Limerick is seeking Ireland’s exciting filmmaking talent to produce short films using Limerick as a location. Two successful applicants for the awards receive up to €15,000 in cash towards the production budget for their film. Each production also receives advice and support for making the films. The first screening of the two shorts will take place in Limerick as part of Limerick City of Culture 2014, and the successful filmmakers will be encouraged to submit their films to festivals both in Ireland and abroad. In addition the two shorts will be used as part of Limerick City’s bid for European City of Culture 2020.
At the heart of the Film Limerick project is the aim to shine a spotlight on Limerick as a film destination and to enable Limerick to realise its potential as a film producing hub. This will facilitate the long term goal of encouraging both established and emerging filmmakers to use Limerick as a location. It also aims to develop a number of projects that form part of the legacy for Limerick in 2014 during its year as National City of Culture.
Film Limerick is now open for entries and are looking for filmmakers who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works. Whether you are just starting out or you have been making films for years, this is your chance to shine.

The Limerick City of Culture in partnership with Behind the Scenes, has announced the appointment of Ronan Cassidy to the role of Project Manager-Film Limerick.
This new position has been established to promote and encourage Limerick to realise its potential as a film producing hub. It also aims to develop a number of projects that form part of the legacy for Limerick in 2014 during its year as National City of Culture. Behind the Scenes now replaces the Film Pillar of Limerick City of Culture.
At the heart of the Film Limerick Project is a unique and exciting scheme to produce two short films using Limerick as a location. With a budget of €15,000 each the selected projects will be filmed later this year. This will facilitate the long term goal of encouraging both established and emerging film makers to come to Limerick.
Ronan Cassidy commented on his new role, stating: “I am deeply honoured to have been given the opportunity to take up the post of Project Manager -Film Limerick. Having been involved in various roles in the world of the arts, film and television production, I’m thrilled with this opportunity.
“I’m looking forward to working with the staff of the City of Culture and Behind the Scenes. I’m confident, in taking up this position that I will be able to contribute to the promotion of Limerick City, as a film making location and the development of the film industry locally.”
In collaboration with Behind the Scenes, Ronan will now be responsible for encouraging local and national filmmakers to tell their stories through the film scheme; developing an educational and training programme for emerging film makers; and promoting film culture throughout Limerick.
He will also support local film festivals, promote local films in international competition, and positioning Limerick as a location for international audio-visual productions by offering advice on locations, creative resources, as well as with technical assistance and financial incentives.
Simon McGuire, co-founder of Behind the Scenes, commented “We would like to congratulate Ronan on his appointment as Project Manager. Since its inception in 2011, Behind the Scenes has strived to promote film, TV and video production in Limerick and the Mid-West area.
”The Film Limerick Project presents a unique opportunity to cement Limerick as a film making hub of the Mid-West. We look forward to working closely with Ronan, City of Culture and the film makers to establish an enduring legacy for Limerick.”
Welcoming the announcement, Art and Culture Manager Sheila Deegan, said: “On behalf of the Limerick City of Culture I am delighted that someone of the calibre and experience of Ronan Cassidy has agreed to serve as Project Manager for Film Limerick. His challenge will be to oversee the selection and production of two short films. His long term objective will be to bring Limerick as a film location to the attention of Irish directors, writers, actors and producers which in turn will increase the employment potential of the local audio visual sector.”

Limerick City of Culture is pleased to be working with Behind The Scenes and the Film Limerick Pillar to develop a number of projects that form part of the legacy for Limerick in 2014 during its year as National City of Culture.
Inspired by the growing local film industry, this legacy project will promote and encourage Limerick to realise its potential as a film producing hub.
Behind the scenes are a group of film professionals established in January 2011 in Limerick and was created with the intention of bringing together like minded individuals to study and promote film, tv and video production in the Mid-West. Three years later membership and collaboration has grown and established itself as the key reference point of information for film in Limerick.
With this in mind Behind the Scenes wish to appoint a Project Manager.
The Project Manager will report to Behind The Scenes and will be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of Film Limerick legacy project.
Key responsibilities of the role will involve planning and scheduling the legacy project timeline, managing budgets and successfully delivering the project as part of the programme for City of Culture 2014.
The project manager will:
· Encourage local and national filmmakers to tell their stories through a film scheme that will see two short films made as part of Limerick 2014.
· Develop an educational and training programme for emerging film makers through in conjunction with relevant local and national providers.
· Promote film culture throughout Limerick, encouraging the idea of the city through a lens.
· Position Limerick as a location for international audio-visual productions by offering advice: on great locations, creative resources, as well as technical assistance and financial incentives.
· Supporting local film festivals and promoting local films in international competition
