Acclaimed sports journalist David Walsh will soon speak to a full house at Limerick’s new Lime Tree Theatre about his pivotal role in the epic Lance Armstrong saga, joined on stage by fellow doubter Paul Kimmage.

Tickets have flown out the door for the Limerick Leader-promoted event as fast as the peloton moves in the Tour de France, a race Walsh fell in love with in 1982. Just a handful for the 510-seat theatre remained on sale this Wednesday night and they were expected to disappear quickly. All proceeds are going to two good Limerick causes – Cycle 4 Sick Children and the Simon Community

The event in Limerick will be moderated by Alan English and questions will be invited from the audience. When Walsh spoke at a venue in London late last year, “the hands shot up”, which astonished the seasoned journalist.

Walsh is expecting to answer plenty of questions at the Lime Tree – and he’s looking forward to it.

We are delighted to be involved in working on the VT inserts for this event at the Lime Tree and it will be certainly an evening not to be missed.

2013 is proving to be a busy year already with several new ventures happening.

One of these ventures is working with Visitor TV in producing local advertising for television screens in the hotels of the mid-west of Ireland and beyond.

“Visitor TV’s  aim is to enhance every hotel guest’s break away, ensuring they get maximum return from the hotel and local attractions.

A feature video about the local area is shown 24/07 on the Guest Channel, ensuring that visitors enjoy the local attractions & shop till they drop. The video helps them see all a region has to offer and more importantly give them a reason to return.”

On Friday night last at the Limerick Strand Hotel the 2nd annual Limerick Regional Business Awards and President’s dinner took place.

With ten category awards ranging from Best SME to Retail and Hospitality the night saw over 450 guests representing the best in business across multiple sectors.

We had the pleasure of producing the video inserts and conducting the playback on the night.

Charities were also benefiting from the night with a raffle and other funding taking place.

The Best Overall winner this year was Northern Trust where Catherine Duffy, Director, collected the prize on behalf of the business.

The recipient of the President’s award when to lifetime Limerick Chamber member Paddy O’Sullivan.

Film In A Day Example – Killer Recession

On Saturday, 15th September 2012, the streets of Limerick will come alive to welcome both visitors and native Limerick people alike to the inaugural Elemental Arts & Culture Festival.

The festival encompasses the arts in all their guises, from interactive street art, dance and short films, to street performers and a talk on a very special lost local hero.

The day is designed to keep everybody happy. Start the day at the People’s Park at 10am with laughter yoga followed by tai chi and dance.

Go back to school from 12pm – 3pm at the Frank McCourt Museum for puzzles, funny portraits and all things fun-related. No 1 Pery Square plays host to the Lady Heath talk at 2.30pm.

Moving down to Bedford Row and Thomas Street, which will be the main hub for street activity, there will be local actor Myles Breen with his tea dance.

From 11am – 4pm, the Hunt Museum will showcase a number of skilled craftsmen and women, from a woodturner to a farrier and a Limerick lace maker, shining a light on these forgotten skills.

Helena Enright, with her ‘River Shannon Project’ will gather information at Arthur’s Quay Centre during Elemental to present in a ‘Theatre of Testimony’ reading later that evening while Behind the Scenes Film Network Group will feature an installation of short films on the theme of the elements. (Taken from Limerick.ie)

The George Boutique Hotel will host a series of short films each relating to one of the elements, from 12pm to 2pm in the hotel. All the films have been supplied by the film makers and members of the Behind The Scenes group, based in Limerick and serve the midwest.
So for one day only it promises to be a festival not to be missed.
Hope to see some of ye there.

Hi All

Well we are at the end of the “Summer” (and I use that term loosely) and Behind the Scenes had another great evening last night at the Millennium Theatre.

A category that is often over looked in the industry of television was explored in detail with a fresh insight to what equipment and trends are at the forefront of this creative discipline.

Adrian ‘Ado’ Cunningham gave a hour long talk on ‘Working with Sound on TV’ along with an opportunity to view his pride and joy, an OBU for sound recording.

Film and Video entusiasts came from across the city and county including Co.Clare to hear about the past experience Ado has had to date and to learn how the key role of a sound recordist has in the television industry.

Behind the Scenes would like to thank Ado for his time and effort in putting together his presentation as well as bringing along the OBU (see pics) for the members to have a look at. Also we would like to thank Gerry Meagher of the Millennium Theatre for looking after us with the venue.

Next months meeting will be on the discipline of Lighting and promises to be another great insight to an important area of film making.
